Apple Watch Series 8 (2022): Everything we can expect

While the Apple Watch 7 was only released a few months ago, the Apple Watch 8 series is already on our minds. And, while the users are impressed by Apple's smartwatches, they still have certain flaws. Since the launch of the original, Apple has announced a new version of the finest smartwatch every year. As a result, there's a significant probability that Apple is already working on a successor to the Apple Watch 7. We haven't seen any huge leaks as we did with the iPhone 14, but rumours that didn't pan out with the most recent model could be headed for Apple Watch 8.

For all we know, Apple may still be working on the flat-edged makeover that so many people were hoping for. It could also bring a new health sensor to the Apple Watch 8, as the hardware of the Apple Watch 7 vs. the Apple Watch 6 didn't offer much in the way of wellness. Meanwhile, watch OS 8 introduces new fitness categories as well as a Mindfulness app for daily reflection. Check out the details below.

Design change and more size options

The Apple Watch's look and design have stayed nearly unaltered since the original model appeared in 2016 but this was adjusted with the Apple Watch 7 to accommodate larger displays in an ever-so-curvier shell. While Apple Watch 8 speculations are still in the nascent stage and circulating, there are a few that have surfaced. The most recent is a supposed Apple Watch render an image which shows that the Apple Watch 8 won't be much different from the Apple Watch 7. But remember, these are just speculations.

However, if the Apple Watch 8 receives the advancements that were originally expected for the Series 7, it could adopt the design language of newer, flat-edged iPhones. Another set of rumours revealed intentions for a flat-edged overhaul and allegedly leaked promise on an all-flat design, including the display.

Be more health cautious with new health features

According to experts, Apple is working on many additional health features for future Apple Watch models such as the Apple 8 watch series. We are expecting features such as blood pressure monitoring, a thermometer, sleep apnea diagnosis, and diabetes detection among the key features available. Some of these features are likely to be included in the Apple Watch Series 8, but it's unclear whether all of the sensors are ready, so Apple could delay the functionality.

  • Skin temperature reader: Apple is working on a skin-temperature sensor, similar to the one found in Fitbit Sense, according to experts. This functionality could very well arrive in 2022, requiring new circuitry in the Apple Watch to detect temperature. It's feasible that the watch's capacity to take temperature might be marketed as a fertility-planning feature.
  • Blood glucose reader: For quite some time, the blood glucose reading for Apple Watch has been rumoured. Apple wants its smartwatch to be able to diagnose or help monitor diabetes. There are currently third-party apps that function with an intrusive pump, but Apple is said to be looking into noninvasive blood glucose monitoring.
  • Blood pressure monitor: Blood pressure monitoring for Apple Watch has been rumoured for a while, much like blood glucose reading. Apple appeared to be on the verge of announcing the health sensor ahead of the Apple Watch 7 debut, but it never materialised. As we've seen, Samsung's blood pressure monitor in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is currently awaiting FDA certification. So, blood pressure monitoring will not be available on the Apple Watch until it receives the required certifications for use.
  • Detection of Sleep Apnea: Apple wants to employ the current blood oxygen sensor to identify sleep apnea, but obtaining many readings without depleting the battery is a challenge.

What are the new features and will there be SE Variant?

Here are some other features we can expect in the upcoming Apple watch series 8:

Better battery life: For several years, the Apple Watch's battery life has been rated at 18 hours. Even though the corporation has put in more taxing features, such as an always-on display, you can't avoid paying a daily fee. The Apple Watch 8's endurance may improve compared to previous-generation models, thanks to a greater battery capacity and a more efficient chipset. We hope for this every year but did not see the change with the Apple Watch 7.

MicroLED display: There have been rumours that the Apple Watch will convert from an OLED to a microLED display. It might make the Apple Watch smaller and more power-efficient. MicroLED displays are brighter and do not have the luminance decay issues that standard OLED panels do. In other words, adopting micro-LED screen technology could also extend the Apple Watch's battery life.

Touch ID: The current biometric system for the Apple Watch is pretty simple. You'll have to key in your passcode every time you put your Apple Watch on your wrist. Given the quantity of data your smartwatch may contain, we'd like to see improved protection and TouchID appears to be the solution until the Apple Watch receives a native selfie camera for FaceID. A fingerprint reader might be placed on the side button or even beneath the Apple Watch display.

Bigger sizes: Despite the fact that the Apple Watch 7 increased from 40mm and 44mm to 41mm and 45mm, we expect and would like to see the Apple Watch arrive in even bigger sizes. The present sizes allow for a shrunken user experience, which is great for snippets but not so great for productivity. Adding a few millimetres to the Apple Watch may not appear to be a significant adjustment, but it might allow the company to include more powerful microphones and speakers, as well as a faster processor.

If you are buying an Apple watch online, Zumi is your one-stop destination. But Zumi also understands if you are looking for more options and want to look at the best android smartwatches. Here are some top picks.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is a good choice among the best smartwatches. It detects heart rate, collects ECGs, and calculates body composition, courtesy of the 3-in-1 health sensor. While the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Wear OS features are enticing, it nevertheless pays tribute to Tizen, making it the ideal companion for Samsung's top phones. The only issue is the battery life but if you do not mind a daily charge, you are sure to enjoy the onboard GPS, an always-on display, excellent sleep tracking and more.

Fitbit Sense: The Fitbit Sense is the company's top-of-the-line smartwatch, offering advanced health and wellness capabilities. The Sense can monitor electrodermal activity and skin temperature, in addition to having an FDA-approved ECG sensor and blood oxygen readout. It works with both iOS and Android and includes onboard GPS, a native app store, Alexa, and more.

Fitbit Versa 3: The Fitbit Versa 3, the next generation of the famous Fitbit Versa 2, is the best wristwatch for advanced sleep tracking with a curvier, larger display. On-board GPS is the Versa 3's most notable upgrade. Even if you leave your phone at home, the Versa can now (finally) track your location when exercising outside. In addition, Active Zone Minutes, a wonderful motivational workout tool, has been added to Versa 3.
